KANTZ INVENTS FUNNEL
Irving resident William E. Kantz Jr., is one of the city’s newest and youngest entrepreneurs. His invention, the
Hyperbolic Funnel, is now on display at Big Town Mall in Mesquite, Olla Podrida Mall in Dallas, Forum 303 Mall in Arlington, and the West End Marketplace in Dallas.
The scientific display of the solar system measures five feet in diameter and
demonstrates the law of planetary motion when a coin, any denomination, is placed on the surface and begins orbiting.
Kantz said the coins will travel at speeds up to 56 mph and up to 48 revolutions, appearing to defy gravity as they speed toward the unit’s center
hole, which represents the sun.
“According to Kepler’s laws of planetary motion, these two types of energy cause planets to speed up as they near the sun and slow down as they
draw away,” Kantz explained.
“The coins that fall to the bottom are used by the exhibitor for maintenance and upkeep,” said Kantz. And with only a penny a throw necessary, he
emphasizes that the units are very low maintenance and effective crowd pleasers.
